Australian freshwater turtle programs
Freshwater turtle conservation in Australia is urgently needed as the majority (88%) of species are endemic i.e. they occur nowhere else but in Australia and many species are threatened. This places an imperative on Australian society to address species decline and ensure their persistence for future generations. The good news is that conservation and research actions are happening. Both these programs operate at the national scale and provide resources training, data collection, and are readily accessible by individuals, community groups, and local government.
